five steps to brighter skin

If you were to ask me what my favorite part of my day is, I would tell you getting ready for bed. My nightly facial routines are something I really look forward to. Taking care of your body and maintaining good hygiene can be really motivating! I feel my absolute best fresh out of the shower with no makeup on and fresh skin ready for moisturizing. I have tried countless facial products throughout my life and no brand had ever made such a good impression that I stuck with them for more than a couple months. Until this year, I found a combination of products and a 5-step procedure that I absolutely love right now and am always excited to share!

1. Make-up Remover:

Burt's Bees Facial Cleansing Towelettes - Pink Grapefruit

These wipes smell so good, don't leave your face oily like most makeup removers, don't cause breakouts, and don't require 5 wipes to completely remove your makeup. I use one!

2. Facial Cleanser

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash - Pink Grapefruit

Yes, I have a thing for grapefruit ok. I love the texture of this face wash, as you can feel it actively scrubbing the dirt and oils off your skin. It makes me feel like I'm at the spa getting a facial. It also smells heavenly.

3. Toner

PCA Skin Smoothing Toner

Working in a medical office, I talk with drug reps as well as dermatology reps, who offer their pitch about the next greatest product on the market. A rep came in from PCA Skin and gave me a sample kit of their facial products and I was sold on their toner (as well as their serum). It doesn't burn your skin and leave it super dehydrated like most toners do, it is just a slight tingle and no damage done.

4. Moisturizer

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

Drum roll please... this is my favorite facial product of ALL TIME. It is so soothing, it literally feels like your face is having a drink of water. It goes on so smooth, feels cool and light, and does not leave your skin oily or sticky! I would take a bath in this if I could. I love love love it!

5. Night Cream/Anti-Wrinkle

L'Oreal Revitalift Face & Neck Anti-Wrinkle and Firming Night Cream

Yes, I use an anti-wrinkle cream at 25. It may not be completely necessary for everyone but I'd rather start now before I have wrinkles, rather than wait to try to remove them after they are already there. And I do have a couple minimal wrinkles that probably only I notice when I'm a centimeter away from the high-magnifying mirror (which is never a good idea btw.. stay away from those mirrors, they probably scare Beyonce too). But after using this cream for several months now, they have pretty much disappeared.

**There is also a Day Cream option of this same product, with SPF, that I use in the mornings.

I have learned from working with a physician, licensed in skin care, that it SO important to use face products with SPF in them. Every day! Even if you work indoors, you can still get UV damage from flourescent lights. Trust me, I had my face scanned under a blacklight and I was shocked to see how many UV sun spots have developed over time. I never knew indoor lights could cause that too. Just be careful with applying any random sunscreen on your face, because it often causes breakouts if it isn't specially stated that it is for your face.

Now that I've shared my skincare secrets, I hope any one struggling to find a favorite product like I did, will benefit from one of these! Cheers to good skin!
